Careers | Junior Product Designer

Based at our Head Office in Rayleigh, Essex, Monitor Audio Group have a new permanent position for an outstanding Junior Product Designer to join our multi-disciplined R&D team, covering three home audio brands. Reporting to the Design Manager, this new role will help strengthen our drive to develop the best home audio products available. While expand our ability to communicate our designs throughout the organisation and to our customers.

The role encompasses all areas of design from focus group based research, concept sketching, 3D CAD modelling, rendering and engineering development right up to production. The ideal candidates will have 1-2 years’ experience in the design industry or be an exceptional graduate with a strong portfolio of work. Applicants must have a design related degree, either BA or BSC, ideally in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or similar.

Creative design thinking, adept problem solving and team integration are critical to the role, as well as the ambition to take on all the requirements below.

 

Education & Work Experience

  • 2:1 Degree or Masters in Industrial Design, Product Design or Design Visualisation.
  • Ideally at least 1 years’ experience in a creative and professional environment

The candidate should possess the following skills:

Essential Skills

  • Clear ability to create and explain an idea to their colleagues.
  • It is essential product design team members show a strong understanding of CAD development software and a willingness to learn. Ideally Autodesk Inventor (or equivalents such as SolidWorks).
  • Strong CAD presentation skills, especially photo real 2D renders in Key shot or similar.
  • Develop concepts from a specific brief in both freehand and digital formats. Mediums include free hand sketching, foams and cardboard mock-ups alongside 3D printing.
  • A commitment to continued self-development as a designer. Candidates should demonstrate how they actively continue to improve their design knowledge for the benefit of themselves and the whole team.

Good to have, not essential

  • Strong sketching skills.
  • Proven ability to deliver 2D & 3D presentations of a concept.
  • An understanding of design to manufacture and the product development process.
  • A strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing process’ such as casting, machining and injection moulding.

Main Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver designs from sketch to production with a focus on presentation.
  • Delivery of work on time, communicating all risks.
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge within the relevant fields.
  • Encouraging team working and the sharing of new information or knowledge within the team environment.
  • Developing new ideas to further progress the sound quality of our products.
  • Maintaining a strong working relationship with other teams around the business.
  • Be willing to travel if required.
