We spoke to Instagram follower @friggin.vinyl about their audio equipment, record collection and favourite album
When did you start collecting records?
I started collecting records in April of 2015. A great friend of mine took me to a local record shop, Exile on Main in Champaign, IL, for Record Store Day. I thumbed through a few of the crates and finally found a record I deemed worthy of being my first record. Toro Y Moi's "What For?". I listened to that record probably a hundred times that follow spring/summer. After that, I inherited a few of my parents records and amassed a collection of my own.
What's your favourite record?
This is such a tough question to ask a collector. Generally, there's more than one 'favorite record', depending on mood, season, etc. Right now, however, my current favorite record would have to be Rammstein's most recent release "Zeit". It's a very well produced, heavy, record. A record that I will always come back to, one that I could probably consider to be my all time favorite record, is The Mars Volta's "De-Loused in the Comatorium". My brother showed it too me when I was ten years old and it's made a lasting impact on my taste in music since. It's simply the best piece of music that's been written in the last twenty years and a true benchmark of what I would consider to be defining.
Who is your favourite artist/band?
Again, it's gotta be The Mars Volta. I don't think there's been a more groundbreaking band to write music in the last two decades than those guys. I'm really looking forward to the next album and what the future holds for them.
What's your favourite music based magazine?
To be honest, I don't find myself reading magazines very much. I use a lot of groups on social media and various other sources to get my information for all things audio. Lots of advice from friends, as well.
