Black Rainbows

Corinne Bailey Rae | Black Rainbows Music

In a remarkable switch in style, English singer Corinne Bailey Rae returns for her fourth studio album. Complex, but cohesive, the wonderful mix of layers show the artistic freedom she has on Black Rainbows. Seven years since her last release, her latest record was inspired by artist Theaster Gates’ work on Black history, which "summoned thoughts about slavery, spirituality, beauty, survival, hope and freedom”. Themes from her punk-rock past seem to transform Bailey Rae’s sound, and mixing in some jazz and R&B provides some exceptional results.

everything is alive

Slowdive | Dead Oceans

It’s a wonderfully measured return for English rock band Slowdive on their fifth studio album, Everything Is Alive. With distorted guitars, dreamy and mellow vocals over driving rhythms, the album is a beautiful landscape of alluring melodies, encompassed across eight alluring tracks. Since reforming in 2014, the band have seen their fanbase grow significantly and despite it being their first album in six years, its clear that nobody does it better, when it comes to shoegaze music, than Slowdive.
