Romance

Fontaines D.C. | XL Recordings

Romance is the fourth studio album by Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. Influences on the record are found in the form of cinema and when discussing the creative leap taken on Romance, lead singer and lyricist Grian Chatten explained “We always think that we’re pushing the boat out, or taking some new turn, with each record, and I think probably the reality is that it was a lot less of a turn than we thought. But this time, I feel good about it being a full turn.” Four albums in five years is some achievement and as they continue to push the boundaries with a renewed creative spirit, its evident they have a lot more to offer.

A Firmer Hand

Hamish Hawk | So Recordings

A Firmer Hand is the third studio album by Scottish musician Hamish Hawk. The record deviates sonically and thematically from his previous output, dealing with darker subjects relating to sexuality, with Hamish stating “Music is a language, a means of engaging, of connecting. There’s no hope for connecting if I keep things to myself”. It features a wide array of genres, with influences from gothic rock, new wave, synthwave and elements of funk. Though it’s filled with dance hits, the record is heavy and a bold step forward, with far more depth and honesty. A Firmer Hand will bring Hamish the recognition he richly deserves.

Ultra 85

Logic | BMG Rights Management (US) LLC

Ultra 85 is American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer Logic’s ninth studio album. Logic announced his retirement from music back in 2020, but after becoming the first musician to sign exclusively with Twitch, he seemed revitalised. Released independently and alongside his science fiction novel of the same name, it tells the story of two friends uncovering a utopian planet in the distant future. It's clear that Logic is driven, intense, determined, and full of energy on Ultra 85, with some impressive instrumentation, the album is quite possibly his best to date.
