This week, Karen, part of our sales admin team, shares her favourite album of the week - 'Foot Stompers'.

"So as a young lady I moved from the Mod revival as I discovered the joys of Northern Soul music and the whole feeling in the scene. My local record shop owner was also a big fan and he stocked many albums on the Kent label, which was in the 1984 – 1986 era I believe.

The albums were a great introduction to the Northern Soul scene and also gave you the chance to practise your dancing at home.

I had most of the albums but this one was my favourite as I could feel every breath and every note that was sung. Every song just wakes your soul and makes you feel alive.

The music is felt in the depths of your heart when you listen to it, and no matter what kind of day you have had, it can lift you up and you cannot stop yourself from dancing.

The whole Northern Soul scene and clubs form some of the best memories of my younger years. People will never know the thrill of throwing talc on the floor to dance unless you were there and did it!

I have a varied range of taste in music, but there is something very special about Northern Soul and hearing the crackle as the album or single starts playing on the turntable.

It still gives me a thrill and shiver up my spine as soon as I hear the first beat, and will always make me smile.

For me, Northern Soul is my emotional pick as it really touches me inside and you don’t just listen to Northern Soul, you feel it.

Keep The Faith."

About the album

'Foot Stompers' is a compilation released by Kent Records in 1984. The album is a celebration of Northern Soul, a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England and the Midlands in the late 1960s mod scene based on American soul music with heavy beats and fast tempos.
